Targeting the sophisticated traveler who needs internet access, world-renown fashion retailer Louis Vuitton has unveiled its first smartwatch – joining Tag Heuer in the quest to corner the luxury wearables market. Encased in sapphire glass and powered by Android Wear 2.0, the Tambour Horizon by Louis Vuitton is the perfect combination of both high-end fashion and the latest in smartwatch technology.
Smartwatch Technology
Equipped with 521MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 300mAh battery, the Tambour Horizon is an action-packed smartwatch powered by a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processing chip. Engineered by both Qualcomm and Google, Louis Vuitton’s luxury smartwatch supports a full array of intuitive travel apps guiding the adventure every step of their travels. Here’s is a quick snapshot of the two apps the Tambour Horizon features:
Intuitive Apps
The MyFlight app is capable of delivering real-time itinerary details to your watch face including boarding times, gate numbers, and time remaining until departure. Smart enough to know when you’re airborne, MyFlight automatically switches your smartwatch to flight mode while keeping you updated on minutes left before arriving at your final destination.
The CityGuide app, yet another travel-friendly software feature, provides travelers up-to-date suggestions on the best local restaurants, cafés, shops, museums, hotels, etc. This is available in 29 foreign cities and is one of the most intuitive travel companions Android has to offer. With a watch face that easily adjusts for time zones, provides up-to-date weather info no matter where you’re located and counts the number of steps you’ve taken, you’ll have access to an abundance of info just by glancing down at your wrist.
“The Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon is designed to travel the globe in style.”
Louis Vuitton Design Features
As for aesthetics, the Tambour Horizon strikes the perfect balance between elegant design features and cutting edge technology. Housed in a stainless steel brushed case, the 1.2-inch 390 x 390 AMOLED touchscreen is fully customizable with a selection of Louis Vuitton watch faces. With six different versions available and the option to seamlessly swap out straps (black, pink, white, gray, and brown), the Tambour Horizon can be personalized accordingly.
Even though Lois Vuitton is synonymous with high fashion, there’s really no compromise when it comes to durability. The Tambour Horizon is water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet) and one single charge lasts 22 hours. Whether you’re exploring a volcano in Iceland or Scuba diving in Jamaica, you’ll have access to all of the smart functionality of your watch.
Connectivity
Connecting to Wi-Fi over Bluetooth 4.1 technology, the Tambour Horizon is both iOS/Android compatible but you may want to stick to Android apps for full smartwatch functionality. With early estimates placing the watch somewhere between $2,450 and $2,900, Louis Vuitton’s first smartwatch certainly falls into the luxury wearable category.
If there is a drawback, the Tambour Horizon doesn’t have any of the fitness monitoring features that normally come with smart watches. Without a built-in heart rate monitor, Horizon wearers will have to rely on fitness applications to track their performance. Once again, this is a testament to Louis Vuitton’s focus on capturing the sophisticated traveler instead of the fitness enthusiast.

Don’t waste your money if you have an iPhone the OS wear, there are multiple issue every time a software update takes place. I’ve had a terrible experience with this watch. Beware.
Same issue w software update. Hefty price tag for a watch w minimal features and not very user friendly for iPhone owners
