Built upon an aerodynamic Toray T700 carbon fiber frame, fork, seat post, and handlebar, LeEco’s smart bike is super lightweight (18.5 lbs) and features an 11-speed one-by drivetrain. Equipped with a brand new 1x drive system for higher speeds, cycling enthusiasts can hit the streets knowing they’re pedaling a state-of-the-art road bike designed for performance. Whether it’s the single-chain up front, the shift brake levers, or the dual-pivot technology, riders can set new records in speed and distance by accessing a full suite of components.

Smart Technology

LeEco’s Android-based Bike OS not only supports third party sensor technology but also controls the touch screen that attaches inconspicuously to the carbon fiber frame. From tracking bike speeds to computing distance traveled for each ride, the touchscreen – powered by a Snapdragon 410 processor and 6,000 mAh rechargeable battery – is an intuitive device that records cycling performance metrics. As with most smart bikes, they rely on a full suite of sensors that include a compass, barometer, and speedometer.

With safety at the forefront of their design innovation, LeEco’s road bike has two laser beams that shoot out of the handlebar ends – creating its own illuminating bike lane visible to drivers at night. Projecting a good three meters on each side of the bike, the laser-emitting lights alleviates any visibility concerns during a late night ride.

Connectivity

Equipped with a 4G LTE radio, riders have the option of listening to their playlist on or offline. One of the coolest features LeEco offers its riders: an onboard walkie-talkie system that lets cyclists communicate with fellow smart super bikers.

Still, in its development phase with an end-of-Q2 production finishing date, LeEco plans on introducing its all-new Bike OS 2.0. From collecting pertinent riding data to sharing performance metrics with fellow cyclists, the smart road bike lets you keep track of fitness goals via the LeEco Bike App.

Final Thoughts

Although no pricing information has been released by LeEco, they generated some significant buzz around its Superbike at this year’s CES 2017. LeEco thought way outside the box when it incorporated both walkie-talkie and laser-emitting technology into its road bike design. The company also separated itself with the latest Android-powered operating system that speaks directly to the 4-inch touchscreen. Like with most smart bikes, using the sensor technology without the reliance of a smartphone is key. Thankfully, the LeEco smart bike comes with built-in LTE technology allowing riders to access most of the bike’s bells and whistles without needing a WiFi connection.
