Team Rocketbook – the Boston-based startup – has already raised close to $2.7 million (June 2017) from its Indiegogo campaign with its revolutionary reusable notebook prototype. The Everlast notebook is designed to last for your entire lifetime and since it connects to cloud-based services, the technology only gets smarter. So what makes the Everlast Notebook so disruptive?
Technology
First and foremost, Everlast allows users to take notes, snap a quick photo of your work via the Rocketbook app, then instantly send it off to a favorite cloud-based service (Google Drive, DropBox, Slack, Evernote, etc.). When you’re done inking notes or sketch, simply grab a moist towel, wipe away the content, and start taking notes again. If you’re someone who lives their life in business meetings, is a habitual list maker, or a student with an action-packed schedule this semester, there’s really no better way to organize your notes and at the same time, save a few dozen trees over your lifetime.
The magic of Everlast is in its writing instrument and although it would have been nice for them to offer their own proprietary device, why try and duplicate an already amazing pen. The Pilot FriXion line is a selection of gel ballpoint pens that work perfectly with Everlast’s reusable notebook. According to Everlast, “when you combine FriXion pens with the Everlast pages, a dry paper towel doesn’t do a thing. But a moist paper towel removes every bit of ink.” Available for purchase online, the compatible FriXion makes writing on an Everlast page feel like writing on a high-quality piece of smooth construction paper.
Intelligent Design
With the option of two sizes (letter size at 8.5 x 11 inches and executive size at 6 x 8 inches), the Everlast is a well-constructed device made from a durable polyethylene blend that features a distinctive DOT grid pattern. The erasable and reusable Everlast notebook is nothing without its Rocketbook companion app and is the link between your written content and the digital world.
The Everlast Notebook strikes the perfect balance between the traditional pen & paper notetaking and cloud-based connectivity. Even though it looks and feels like a classic notebook, the Rocketbook companion app delivers the benefits of a digital organizer. The user-friendly notebook lets you configure the seven symbols located at the bottom of your page – linking your work to a favorite cloud-based service. Whether you want to send your work to Dropbox or simply an e-mail address, you can preset symbols accordingly. Once you open up the Rocketbook app and take a quick snapshot of your written notes/sketch, your content is immediately sent to your pre-configured cloud services.
Compatibility & Durability
If you’re concerned about something getting lost in translation between the Everlast notebook and delivery to your cloud-based services, be rest assured… the image processing capabilities of the Everlast notebook are top notch. Once quick glance at the before-and-after photos of the captured content will depict an even clearer image than the original work. Perfect for text notes, sketches, and diagrams, the Everlast notebook keeps everything super-organized and easily accessible no matter the chosen platform.
The only downside to the Everlast Notebook appears to be centered around wiping maintenance. In other words, if you leave FriXion pen ink on the notebook for too long it may leave so ghosting behind – compromising your next sketch. Rocketbook recommends erasing every few weeks to keep the book in ideal working condition.
