In an attempt to recreate the live music experience, Berlin-based Lofelt designed Basslet – a watch-sized subwoofer that straps to your wrist sending bass frequencies into your arm. The fully immersive sound experience is powered by revolutionary haptic technology. Capable of sending bass frequencies as low as 10 Hz into the wearer’s forearm, Basslet brings your favorite Spotify playlist to life in a truly fascinating way.

“Basslet recreates bass frequencies of music in high fidelity and sends them directly to your body.”
Lofelt’s high-performance LoSound engine is where all the magic happens. Whether you want to absorb the bass-line of your favorite riff or simply feel the sensation of an incredible drum solo, Lofelt’s wearable subwoofer is an action-packed wearable equipped with state-of-the-art HD haptic technology. With a versatile frequency range from 10 to 250 Hz and 6+ hours of playtime, Basslet is a rather intuitive device that needs no additional software to get going. Simply plug and play.
Considered to be the “natural way to interact with digital devices and user interfaces,” haptic technology is poised to disrupt the consumer technology industry. From wearable subwoofers to gaming systems to VR headsets, immersion is here to stay and will eventually become an expected technology.
Designed to handle low peak sounds with extreme accuracy, Basslet makes you feel as if the sound is omnipresent. Even though isolated to your forearm, your body does a pretty amazing job of sending the haptic signals to the rest of the body – making Basslet a “full body” experience. According to the company’s website, Lofelt uses the “most powerful and accurate micro-actuator for HD haptic feedback on the market.”
The high-quality touch feedback is powered by an “innovative voice-coil design with highly optimized magnetic flows.” In other words, this is one sophisticated wearable subwoofer. Silent to the outside world, Basslet deepens the wearer’s connection to music without disrupting others. Since it’s a stand-alone device needing no extra configuration, Basslet is a highly portable device allowing users to bring the augmented sound experience with them wherever they go.
Haptic technology is certainly impressive and Lofelt’s innovative device is truly revolutionary. But is it worth the $200 price tag for the more immersive music listening experience? I’m just not sure. After reading the reviews, most of the feedback is positive. A TechCrunch reviewer, after using Basslet said, “I heard things in songs I’ve been listening to for years that I had never noticed before.”
Time will only tell if Basslet users end up getting annoyed with the haptic sensation running through their arm each time they listen to their favorite song. I know one thing, I certainly want to give it a try while listening to 1983’s bass-heavy Police album “Synchronicity.”
