Drones aren’t exactly something new as the technology and the concept have been around for some time now. They allow mankind to reach places that were previously unreachable and also explore places previously impossible to explore. However, while the flying drone has been around for quite some time now, a new invention is now being introduced to the world in the form of an underwater drone. The difference between the regular drone and the underwater one is as obvious as it can get, with the latter trading air for water, or more specifically the underwater environment.

Some might consider that an underwater drone is just a way in which people can show off that they had money to spend, but this PowerVision product is actually a great purchase for those that indulge themselves in fishing of all kinds. The PowerRay drone is a very powerful tool that brings invaluable utility to the world of fishing which hasn’t prospered as well as land and air when it comes to technology and technological advancements over the past decade.

The PowerRay is a product of PowerVision, a company based in Beijing. The company has previously released other drones on the market in the form of the PowerEgg, PowerEye and Powerbee. These are all flying drones and that means that the PowerRay drone is actually the first underwater endeavor for the company. However, it is very safe to say that this may mark the beginning of a new line of underwater drones thanks to the success of the PowerRay.

Introducing the PowerRay

There are many used for the PowerRay, but if there was an absolute need for a short summary, the best one would be that the PowerRay is a great tool for those that want to have full control over the depths of water. This drone is capable of going down under to pretty impressive depths but it can be used on the surface of the water just as well. It is capable of dispensing food for fish as bait, which lures them over and ultimately allows the fisherman to snap a picture or even record fish that have come up to eat. The recorded content is then saved and sent to a remote mobile device through Bluetooth technology.

Going deep

The main thing about this drone is that it allows fishermen to get into places they previously weren’t able to reach. Of course, most people are after a little more specific details than that. The PowerRay is capable of sinking as deep as 30 meters. This, in combination with the fact that its sonar is able to detect fish that are 40 meters away from the drone make it so fishing suddenly comes with these great options of learning about the location of fish that are tremendously far away from the fisherman’s position. This kind of technology, or rather lack of it until now, is what separates fishing from pretty much anything else as there haven’t been any significant advancements made for fishing in a very long time.

Controlling the drone

For the longest time, remote controlled devices were thought to always come with some sort of complicated remote control which had a ton of buttons and no one really knew how to use until going through a huge manual which evidenced all the different relevant information. That was the case because in was mostly how things really went down but that’s no longer how remote controlled devices are being sold these days.
Now, it’s as simple as whipping out the mobile phone and issuing commands that are remotely transmitted to the drone. Through a smartphone, those that purchase the PowerRay are able to access all of the drone’s capabilities and functions such as deploying bait, initiating a video recording or taking a picture, and using the sonar.

High tech all the way

What’s probably the most impressive thing about this sonar is the fact that it does not in any given point resemble a device that was rushed and harshly put together in order to make a quick back and present an interesting concept to those that dabble in drones and drone technology. It’s quite the opposite, as the drone looks and feels quite polished and what’s more important very up to date on technology.
Looking no further than the sonar function, it is worth noting that PowerVision did not bake the sonar into the device thus making it part of the machine. Instead, it provided the sonar as a separate add on which can be taken down or installed on the PowerRay depending on its necessity.

Looking further into traces of high tech, there is the camera which can record videos and take pictures all the same. The thing about this camera is that it’s not just some ordinary model, but one that is capable of recording images in 4K. There is a 4K craze right now, making it one of the most desired features on any type of devices that has any connection to image quality. It also makes it a very expensive feature that is slowly moving towards becoming the norm but currently is still in its early and costly phases.
Most water banks don’t have their own lighting system, so PowerVision probably thought right for installing blue hued lights on the drone. This keeps it visible and also more distinguishable in contrast with the water which can bee of numerous kinds when it comes to color and how clear it is.

All in all, the PowerRay underwater drone from PowerVision is a great tool for those that constantly find themselves near the water and in contact with fish. That doesn’t mean that it’s perfect however, as it does have the tendency of getting pulled away by larger fish.
